About Groww Mutual Fund
Groww Mutual Fund is run by Groww Asset Management, the mutual fund arm of Groww, one of India's largest retail investment and broking platforms by user base. The fund house was formerly known as Indiabulls Mutual Fund before Groww acquired it.
Ownership and Heritage
Groww signed a definitive agreement to acquire the mutual fund business of Indiabulls Housing Finance's subsidiaries - Indiabulls Asset Management Company and Indiabulls Trustee Company - for a consideration of roughly ₹175.6 crore. After receiving Competition Commission of India approval in 2021, the transaction finally closed in May 2023, after which the fund house was rebranded as Groww Mutual Fund. This made Groww one of the first major fintech/broking platforms in India to directly own and run an AMC rather than simply distributing other AMCs' funds.
Fund Range and Approach
Groww Mutual Fund has grown its assets under management substantially since the 2023 acquisition, launching new schemes across equity and passive/index categories, leveraging Groww's very large existing retail user base built through its investment app for distribution.
Who Should Consider Groww Mutual Fund
Investors already using Groww's investment platform, or those interested in a fintech-native AMC with rapidly growing scale since its 2023 relaunch, may want to include Groww Mutual Fund in their research - while still checking each specific scheme's category, historical performance, and expense ratio individually.
A Note on the Rebrand
Because Groww Mutual Fund only took its current name and ownership in May 2023, older performance history for its schemes may reflect the prior Indiabulls Mutual Fund era and management team - check the current fund manager's tenure specifically when evaluating any scheme's track record.
Checking a Scheme's Risk-o-Meter and Category
Every Indian mutual fund scheme is required to display a standardised risk-o-meter (ranging from "Low" to "Very High") on its factsheet, reflecting SEBI's categorisation rules for that specific fund type. Checking this alongside the scheme's exact category label - not just its name - is a quick way to confirm a fund actually matches the risk level you're comfortable with before investing.
Reading the Scheme Documents
Before investing in any specific scheme, it's worth reading its scheme information document (SID) and key information memorandum (KIM), both freely available on the AMC's own website - these spell out the exact investment mandate, risk factors, benchmark, and exit load in far more detail than any summary page, including this one, can provide.
Costs: Direct vs Regular Plans
Groww schemes are available as Direct Plans or Regular Plans. Use the Expense Ratio Impact Calculator on this site to estimate the long-term rupee difference between the two.
Comparing Groww Schemes With Other Fund Houses
When comparing a Groww scheme against alternatives, check the historical CAGR across multiple periods where available, the expense ratio, and whether the fund manager is the same one who managed it during the Indiabulls era or a new appointment since the 2023 rebrand - this matters more here than for most AMCs given the recent ownership change.
